How often do you use Instagram? How huge is the role the popular service plays in your ecommerce business? What about Magento 2 Instagram integration? Unfortunately, if you want to combine this social network with your digital storefront, it is impossible unless a third-party module is used. The idea behind the module is quite simple. It helps to promote products by taking their photos or using special Instagram tags. The Magento 2 Instagram slider can be added to almost all pages of your ecommerce website. First of all, you can enhance your homepage. Connect the Instagram feed with Magento 2 and display all your photos on the main page of the storefront. Next, the Magento 2 Instagram feed extension allows to add the new element (slider) to category pages. Besides, you can improve product and CMS pages.
As for the available options, the Weltpixel Instagram Widget Magento 2 module provides very flexible configuration. For instance, you can customize the appearance of the slider container by choosing any color for its background. Besides, it is possible to set a limit on the amount of pictures displayed in a slider as well as specify how many images should be displayed per row. And there are several sorting parameters. The Weltpixel Magento 2 Instagram extension allows to display recent, most commented, or most liked pictures. It is also necessary to mention that the module provides three formats to show images in: Standard Resolution, Low Resolution, and Thumbnail.
Below, we provide a short guide to Magento 2 Instagram integration on the basis of Weltpixel.
1.1. Get a valid client id from Instagram’s API. It is available under Instagram Developer -> Your Account -> Manage Clients -> Register a New Client.
1.2. Fill in the provided form.
1.3. Go to the Security tab. Here uncheck Disable implicit OAuth or Enforce signed requests.
1.4. Get the CLIENT ID code from the success page.
2.1. Copy this URL and paste it into the browser: https://instagram.com/oauth/authorize/?client_id=[CLIENT_ID_HERE]&redirect_uri=http://localhost&response_type=token&scope=public_content
2.2. Replace [CLIENT_ID_HERE] with the Client ID from step 1.4.
2.3. Hit Enter to connect to Instagram’s servers.
2.4. Grant the client you registered in step 1.2 with the access to your account.
2.5. Now, your browser should be redirected to the localhost. Not that the newly generated access token is appended to the URL. You can see it after localhost/#access_token=.
3.1. Enter https://api.instagram.com/v1/users/search?q=[USERNAME]&access_token=[ACCESS TOKEN] in the browser.
3.2. Replace [USERNAME] and [ACCESS TOKEN] with your username and access token from step 2.5.
3.3. Your user ID should be displayed:
4.1. Go to Magento 2 Admin -> Content -> Pages or Content -> Blocks. Settings for Pages and Blocks are the same.
4.2. Hit the Insert Widget button, from the dropdown list select Weltpixel Instagram Widget, configure further options.
4.3. Insert Instagram Client Id and Instagram Access Token, type widget title, add a description, select a color for the container background, specify the amount of images per row, set a limit on the amount of images that should be added to the Magento 2 Instagram feed, select a sorting option (none – as photos come from Instagram, most/least recent, most/leased liked, most/least commented, random), choose resolution (standard 612×612; low 306×306; or thumbnail 150×150), and specify feed type:
- User ID – enter your ID from step 3.3;
- Tagged – type a specific tag;
- Location – enter a specific Location ID (don’t confuse it with a location name).
That was all the configuration. As you can see, it is possible to connect your Instagram account as well as use images related to a certain tag or location.
