How to get Magento 2.4.2?

Magento 2.4.2 pre-release packages are already available. Follow these steps to update to the latest version:

  • Update your e-commerce store to Magento 2.4.2 via composer at Magento Repo or via Magento Account
  • Use your Primary MageID associated with the Magento Commerce account. Otherwise, you won’t access these downloads. 
  • Visit Help Center to ask questions regarding the Magento 2.4.2 update.

Note that the Magento 2.4.2 pre-release provides the ability to take advantage of important updates to security and performance. The latest software ensures your sites remain safe, compliant, and optimized.

What are the new Magento 2.4.2 features?

Now, let’s look at the core Magento Commerce 2.4.2 features. As usual, the latest software version includes several notable improvements and upgrades. This time, new Magento 2.4.2 features are available in the following areas: 

B2B

The B2B buyer and seller purchase approval experience has been enhanced in Magento 2.4.2. Now, the platform offers better online payments. Sellers can rapidly accept purchasing policies regardless of the selected payment method.

And due to new GraphQL APIs, both merchants and their clients can leverage enhanced B2B headless capabilities. However, no exact enhancements are highlighted. 

PWA Studio

You can also streamline the updated PWA Studio with Magento 2.4.2. The latest improvements accelerate the launch of international sites. If you choose the PWA approach, support for multiple languages and currencies is also in position. 

Besides, PWA Studio 9.0.0 adds new “My Account” components for Venia. Other enhancements include various extensibility improvements and performance optimizations. Consequently, you can achieve better time to market and decrease the total cost of ownership.

Interactive in-Product Guidance

Interactive In-Product Guidance is a revolutionary new feature of Magento 2.4.2. It provides users with tips on better product utilization right in the admin section. As a Magento administrator, you will soon face lots of new content types in the backend:

Moreover, 280 quality issues have been fixed in 2.4.2. For instance, Magento 2.4.2 now supports the SameSite attribute for all cookies. Malicious content warnings are also a part of the game. And as we’ve already mentioned, the expansion of GraphQL APIs is associated with 2.4.2. 

Another notable change is related to the Media Gallery. Since the latter now supports web optimization for images, you can experience storefront performance enhancements.

And if you have a complex, multi-store catalog, your store will be more agile since Magento 2.4.2 offers scalability improvements. It supports up to 20x more effective SKUs.

AWS S3 Remote Storage enhancements were introduced in Magento 2.4.2. The latest Commerce version allows merchants to use third-party file storage systems along with native support for AWS S3.

The alpha version of the Upgrade Compatibility Tool is available with Magento 2.4.2. This release lets merchants compare their current production system to new releases. The tool’s purpose is to inform merchants about issues that may exist between custom modules that require modifications because of upgrading.

At the same time, several old features are marked as deprecated in Magento 2.4.2. Firstly, it is the Split Database functionality. It is planned to remove it in Magento 2.5. The same part is assigned to Amazon Pay Vendor Bundled Extension. In Magento 2.4.2, it is marked as deprecated. In Magento 2.5, it will be removed. However, you will be able to get the extension with all its features on the Magento Marketplace.

When will Magento 2.4.2 be released? 

The pre-release access is available to Magento Commerce customers and Partners only. However, Magento 2.4.2 will be released soon: the GA access starts on or after February 9.
